Charles Krug 2009, Cabernet Sauvignon
Yountville – Napa Valley
Summer is here and everyone is firing up the BBQs. Time for a full bodied, yet smooth red to go with all the grilled food in our future! This Cabernet Sauvignon fits the bill perfectly. Bear with me as I share just a bit of historical background.
The winery was founded in 1861 by Charles Krug, who introduced many innovative ideas in winemaking to the California wine industry. It is now in the National Register of Historic Places. Following Mr. Krug’s death the winery was purchased by James Moffitt Sr. in 1894. It became inactive. In 1943 a young Robert Mondavi persuaded his parents to purchase the winery and it remains in the Mondavi family to this day.
Now back to the wine! It is full bodied, bold and peppery, with a deep ruby color. A long, smooth, elegant finish with notes of cocoa and licorice. Totally elevated my farmers market find of grilled, late spring asparagus and Panko breaded, grilled, green tomatoes and onions.
Happy Summer Everyone!
